Apple releases a beta version of iOS 15 with new features. What’s new and how do you install it on your iPhone or iPad?

Tools to help you focus on tasks

iOS 15 provides powerful tools that help users focus and reduce distractions. Focus is a new feature that filters app notifications based on what the user wants to focus on. The system uses artificial intelligence to suggest who and which apps are allowed to show their notifications. Focus suggestions are based on users’ choices, such as during work hours or during sleep breaks, and when the focus is set on one Apple device it is automatically applied to the user’s other Apple devices. When a user’s focus blocks incoming notifications, their status is automatically shown to others in messages, reflecting that the user is not currently accessible.

New user experience notifications

Notifications have been redesigned, adding contact pictures for people and larger app icons making it easier to identify. To help focus, the system collects a summary of unimportant notifications to show them at a more convenient time such as morning and evening. With AI, notifications are prioritized, with the most important notifications raised to the top based on user interactions with apps.

New design for Safari with better experience

With a new design for Safari, you can access controls in a faster way with one hand. The new tab bar is smaller and lighter and floats at the bottom of the screen, so users can easily scroll between tabs. Tab Groups allow users to easily save and access tabs at any time via iPhone, iPad or Mac. New features such as a customizable start page and web extensions make the Safari browser even more personal and powerful.

Explore the world with Apple Maps

Apple is committed to building the best map in the world, and iOS 15 takes maps even further with entirely new ways to navigate and explore. Users will experience significantly improved detail in cities for neighborhoods and business districts, elevations and buildings, new road colors, custom-designed labels and landmarks, and a new Night Mode. This is a new way of looking at the world with the Maps app.

New privacy features

iOS 15 introduces more privacy controls to help protect user information. Mail privacy protection prevents senders from knowing if an email has been opened, and masks IP addresses so that senders cannot know a user’s location or use it to create a cookie. The App Privacy Report provides an overview of how apps have used the access granted to location, photos, camera, microphone, and contacts in the past seven days, and which other areas the app can access.

Redesigned weather and notes apps

Weather includes more graphic displays of weather data, weather maps, and dynamic layouts that change based on the weather. Beautifully redesigned animated wallpapers more accurately reflect the location of the sun and precipitation, and send notifications when rain or snow starts or stops.

Notes also adds tags that make it easy to quickly categorize notes, and sends notifications to members of shared notes informing each other of important changes. The all-new Activity view shows the last history of a shared note.

More and more improvements

We can’t list all the new features and improvements coming with IOS 15. The new system includes improvements and additions in almost all of Apple’s applications, all of which are effective in everyday use. You will find many improvements in the wallet app, iCloud, health apps, translation, and more.

How can I install the iOS 15 update?

Before you get started with the installation steps below, take a minute to create a backup of your iPhone or iPad on your computer. You can roll back to iOS 14 if you find that iOS 15 is not stable enough for you. Any iCloud backups made on iOS 15 cannot be used to restore iOS 14 so be sure to create a backup on your computer before signing up for the beta. Now let’s get started with the installation process.

The public beta version was recently released so if you’re having trouble accessing the site, keep trying. Apple’s servers are experiencing overload at the moment. Once the site is loaded, you can follow the steps below.

Start by enrolling your iPhone or iPad in the public beta program. You will need to use Safari on your iPhone or iPad and visit the registration page here . If you were previously in the public beta, sign in with the same Apple account you used before. Otherwise, click the Register button and follow the instructions. You’ll need to sign in with the same Apple account that you use on your iPhone or iPad.

After you are logged in, click on the appropriate operating system for your device. For example, tap iOS if you are registering an iPhone or iPadOS if you are registering your iPad. In the Getting Started section, there will be a link titled Register your device; Click it. Read Apple’s instructions and then install the beta profile by clicking the blue Download profile button.

Next, open the Settings app, and tap on the beta profile near the top of the screen. You will be asked to agree to install it and then you will be asked to restart your device. After your iPhone or iPad restarts, you can install the beta as you would regular system updates by going to Settings > General > System Update.

The update size is rather large, so make sure you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection to speed up the process. It is also a good idea to connect your phone to a charger to ensure that your device does not run out of power during the update.

What devices support the new update?

Apple has published a list of devices that will receive the update when it officially launches later this year. It’s easy to see if your iPhone or iPad will support iOS 15.
